Imagining India by Nandan Nilekani

with one comment

For a deranged guy like me who distanced from politics, never cared to read newspapers and understand the social and economic undercurrents of India in spite of being an Indian by birth and soul, not by behaviour and allegiance this was the perfect book to put things into perspective and to start to know India with all it’s baggages & complexities. Nandan has covered the history of modern India which was greatly influenced by the experiences and ideologies of it’s leaders and how the population which was considered a burden for a long time suddenly changed into demographical advantage propelling the economic growth of modern India. This book has uncovered the challenges faced by our leaders in taming and progressing our nation, which was not a nation before British rule. The challenges were and are enormous, answers are not simple. However spirit towers over all that. What a book and a call to action

It’s not what you sell its what you stand for – Roy M. Spence Jr

leave a comment »

Roy M. Spence has written an influential book about purpose driven leadership, which can be listed among the genre of ‘Good to Great’. Interesting stories about leaders picking out on purpose to make important decisions for their companies, especially Herb Kelleher of South West Airlines and how purpose has become an integral element of BMW everyday existence and communication to customer. Herb Kelleher’ story and examples provide outstanding insight, especially the sojourn to the discovery of the mission statement, ‘Freedom to fly’. Similar story on BMWs identification of itself as the ‘ultimate driving machine’. A good read

Nuts!

Leadership is not some sophisticated technique for getting people to do what you want them to do. Leadership is getting people to want to do what you want them to do because they share your purpose, vision, values – Quote from the business book Nuts!

If I did not write about Slideology it was only because of the lack of confidence to do justice to this marvelous book on presentations through words….see Nancy giving a brief of this book on video

Not my kind of book….I must blame myself for choosing a book which is an extension of 1999 edition to read now..for most of the ideas does not strike as new now…any way did not take much time to skim through this one.

Designing Interactions by Bill Moggridge

leave a comment »

Designing Interactions was a very alien experience for me. As a consumer, never thought of the designers who spend their lives prototyping, forecasting and experimenting the interaction experience the end users are going to have. This is the story and views of all those people behind the scenes who elevated our day to day experience, the designers of all those minute things we take for granted. A powerful reminder that all these around us was not built in a day. – except for Bill Atkinson who thought up the design for pull down menus overnight.
