The Global Achievement Gap – Tony Wagner
Tony Wagner is the co-director of the Change Leadership Group at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He writes about the seven survival skills that is most relevant in today’s real world which are not taught in schools and picks out a few schools which does that. In most schools children are lectured to (In India college teachers are commonly called as ‘lecturers). Among the skills that matter are critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration across networks, accessing and analyzing information. Students get very little chance while in schools to participate in real world projects, do stakeholder analysis, draw up influencing strategy, articulate vision, be a catalyst influencing change and managing change when change overtakes you. How can we incorporate these kind of real world scenarios into class rooms, how can we make our class rooms more engaging and a place that attract student attention
