Hot, Flat and Crowded – Why we need a green revolution – How it can renew America by Thomas . L. Friedman
Very few people get intrigued by a title like above…..however the name Thomas L Friedman is a crowd puller by its own merit due to the previous hot sellers like The World is Flat and The Lexus and the Olive tree. I would argue his name is a better crowd puller than the nobel winning Paul Krugman ( Both of them are columnists in New York Times)
Little does it matter, what makes you open the book, what matters is the ideas that engages you, hooks you, takes you along a revealing journey and drops you at the end of it, with clarity of mind and urge for action. I guess thats what differentiates Friedman from his peers, ability to explain really complex issues, cut through the quagmire and empower you with a simple vision which can be communicated easily and stimulates you for action. You start viewing the world with a different eye each time you finish a book of his.
This one is about the grip of oil on the world economy, the ability of oil producing countries to thwart investments in technology that will provide clean energy, the vested interests of car companies and oil companies to further world’s addiction to oil, how the price of the oil determines the behaviour of oil rich countries like Iran, Russia and so on…..an intriguing book, what a coincidence that I started on it, immediately after I finished ZOOM.
Thanks Friedman
