Benefit of being an Amazon Junkie

Like all other major retailers Amazon tracks your every purchase on its website and does a lot of number crunching to understand what kind of books you are likely to read and sends alerts to you suggesting those. Being an avid reader, I choose my books from recommendations by previously read authors and my wishlist on amazon mounts to more than 300 books. One aspect I could swear on is the impartiality with which Amazon publishes the reviews. It is not only a book store who want to sell, it is also a guide who want to open up the feedbacks received from customers to you, so that amazon becomes a brand you can trust when choosing books.

I am more inclined to read business books and for a long time I am sporting the idea of whether I should do an MBA. With Amazon around, with access to all those books world wide, with the help of a great number crunching tool ( Amazon recommendation’s) to suggest my future reads, with the blogs of every great business writer you can think about (Tom Peters blog has a list of all possible business blogs you ever will want to read) , with a revenue management job which is all about pulling levers to maximise revenue, do an MBA stand a chance in my choice?

I do not know yet, I took a B.A. Honours degree in Philosophy just to get a ticket into the job market. Now to get a ticket into a different job market, you may still need an MBA? So it is a choice of trading your present for a future. Life is a balancing act, is’nt it?
