Our Iceberg is Melting by John Kotter
This is much in lines of who moved my cheese. A simple fable of Penguins, with all the messages of change management and how change becomes a way of life and you start loving it. A smooth read any may just take less than 2 hours of your time.
Trading Up by Michael J. Silverstein & Neil Fiske
I picked up this book from Dubai Airport on the way to London, the usual day trip that I do very often and I finished the book before I got on the flight back to Dubai next day evening. Extremely illuminating – why consumers want new Luxury Goods – and How Companies create them. The choice of companies that the writers have made are also sublime. BMW, Victoria Secret, Whirlpool, Callaway Golf. The insights these companies about the needs and behaviors of their customers, how they create something unique and invest in educating their consumers to appreciate the exquisiteness of their products. The amount of research and passion they continually pour into their products even if they are the market leaders, how that has become a way of life for them. A must read
Execution – Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan
This is a much talked about book and among the favourites of many business practitioners including Jack Welch’s speech writer who wrote Jacked up. However if you have read ‘Winning’ and ‘Straight from the Gut’ this is just an extension of the same ideas, with an emphasis on execution. It is natural that Bossidy who used to work for Jack emanates the same ideas, however as a reader you feel it is the same candy with a different coating.
